So the latest issue of Linux User and Developer (edition no 94) is running an article I wrote on how Linux and Free Software can help a company towards PCI: DSS compliance. Hopefully it’s informative and people will find it interesting, its certainally a hot topic in the IT profession nowadays.

We are considering a week or so in Brittany next year. It will be me, Julie and Niamh and we want a nice place with a pool, not to far from a beach (30 mins drive at most), and away from the madening crowds. Self-Catering probably but a nice small hotel would be nice too.
Anyone have any recommendations?
Got a strange task today, was asked to review a Satelite Internet Thingy for the owner of the company I am currently assigned at. Basically this guy has a boat and wants to access the company VPN and do Video Conferencing from the boat.
So while doing this we thought we would have a look at the boat it’s going on. Some people just live in a totally different world! This thing is bigger than my house!!
So we got the new car, eventually went for another Impreza, just a newer one, its an estate with the turbo boost
So we are considering part-ex’ing our Subaru Impreza, we have had it from new (2001) and fancy a change. It’s the wife who drives it mostly now and so she wants something slightly bigger for carting Niamh and all her stuff round, she wouldn’t mind a Subaru Forester, though I am inclined to look for another Impreza but an Estate version.
Anyone had or driven both of these and can give me the low-down on what they thought the differences were?
I learnt a new buzzword today, Enterprise 2.0, seemingly its a play on the Web 2.0 thing that everyone keeps talking about.
What is it? It’s basically the new managment style that is being using in places like Google and Sun, where there is a relativly flat managment structure, and all employees are encouraged to express and share in a manner much like the internet, with company blogs, mailing lists etc.
There also seems to be some controversy around the fact that Wikipedia deleted the entry.
Thats the friday useless fact for you! And anyway is nearly bank holiday, so I am watching the clock till 5!
So this is a post about blender, no not that blender!!, I meant this blender!.
We were in Costco in Saturday, intending to get a new tyre to replace the flat one I got on Thursday, and there was a couple of enthusiastic demonstrators flogging these devices. So after some badgering from Julie, we got one, I won’t say how much it cost but lets just say it was a pretty penny. Though I am impressed by the thing, its makes a cracking smoothie, and can do soups etc.
So if you want a nice smoothie, come round to mine!

It seems the League of Gentlemen are filming again, on the way to the shops yesterday I saw Bab’s Cab (the only pre-op cab driver!!) at the top of station road. Next to it were Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, with a few crew members, they didn’t appear to be in character so I suspect its some sort of documentary.
