When I started this blog and I knew the novelty would wear off, the posts would become less frequent, supprised it’s been this quick. It’s now a week since my last post, what a slacker!

It was a manlug meet today. Good time, we had a talk about transparency stuff coming out for X Windows. Pretty cool stuff, this is ‘real’ transaparency as opposed to ‘fake’ stuff. I also put my name down for giving a talk about our desktop Linux implementation.

On a personal note have got the 6 year old neice staying over tonight….Joy! We are also going on a diet, aparently.

Well what a week, new starter Monday, VPN’s in Derby Tuesday, Big Meeting Wednesday, Visits Thursday and Big Meeting Friday. Like I said what a week. The big meeting on Friday was about the Intranet that we are getting, unfortunatally its based on a MS-SQL solution. A real shame as we are doing so well with Open Source Stuff, but there are more and more MS-SQL servers popping up round the company, I need to put a stop to it. Thats 3 MS-SQL servers now in critical business areas, and thats not good. Lets try and make this the last one…..

Sunday is SANDay. Installed a SAN today at the data centre, a nice little FastT600, just attached to a single host for now, but its a start. The AIX box is now working well with it lets hope it shows some sort of performance increase over the old SSA disks. Need to investigate the options for connecting Linux boxes
to it.

Got a new starter tomorrow, our new Techie. There is loads to do but don’t want to drown him the 1st day. Just let him settle in and choose his laptop. Need to take him on a quick tour of the important places.
